Rioja Alta – The Wine Love
Gonzalo Gonzalo and Mar Mota are some of the most eclectic growers of Rioja. With their funky labels and thirst-quenching wines, they buck the trend of the region governed by the large-scale bodegas. Gonzalo grew up in Fuenmayor and he’s from a family of growers. He studied oenology at the university of Rioja along with biology. After travelling Europe working for small growers, discovering alternative techniques and new varieties, he set up Orgullo, his own oenology project. He teamed up with Mar Cambero Azcàreta (a.k.a. Mar Mota), from a family of artisan cask makers in San Vicente. He is also a graduate in oenology and chemistry at the university of Rioja and they started producing wines biodynamically and with minimal intervention.
